Kevin S. Bright was born on 15 November 1984 in New York. He was raised in a Jewish-American household. He went to school in Manhattan’s Lower East Side at the East Side Hebrew Institute. After earning a magna cum laude degree from Emerson College, he worked in New York with Joseph Cates. He produced specials for George Burns, Johnny Cash, David Copperfield, and Dolly Parton.
Career
Bright was mentored by his father, Jackie Bright, as he began his professional career. He began working on comedy specials with Robin Williams, Harry Shearer, Paul Shaffer, and Merrill Markoe after relocating to Los Angeles in 1982. He also worked on “The History of White People in America”. In 1993, Bright formed Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions in cooperation with Marta Kauffman and David Crane. This company later signed a development deal with Warner Brothers Television to produce the comedy series Friends. The sixty episodes of the show, including the series finale, were also directed by him. Following Friends, he went on to executive-produce the spinoff series Joey alongside Shana Goldberg and Scott Silveri. Following a significant rating decline, Joey’s second season was canceled in May 2006. After Joey, Bright returned to Boston and started a job at Emerson College, his alma mater. Kevin Bright executive produced Zebro: A Laugh Show and Chocolate Cake City, Browne At Midnight, Saturdays, Ground Floor, Record Cellar, and Die Laughing. The EVVY Awards also have him on their advisory board. Along with Linda Feferman, Bright co-directed a documentary titled “Who Ordered Taxes” in 2007 about his father. Bright has also worked to establish the curriculum for Emerson’s new LA Center. He taught a number of television production classes in the department of visual media arts. He also collaborated with the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown to create a system for instructing blind people in television production.
