Gower was born in the North West region of England in Aintree, Merseyside, close to Liverpool. His early education took place at Warrington’s Great Sankey High School and Aintree’s Davenhill Primary School. Gower started acting in school performances and musicals during his ninth year of schooling. The sixth form college at Great Sankey High School, Barrow Hall College, accepted him as a student. He joined a local amateur theatre troupe in 2007 while preparing for his A levels. The renowned Spotlight Prize for Best Actor was given to Gower in July 2010, an Oxford School of Drama alum.

Gower made his debut on British television in the medical drama Monroe on ITV in March 2011 as Dr. Andrew Mullery, a future heart surgeon. He saw two coronary artery bypass procedures while standing next to real surgeons to get knowledge for the part. He made an appearance in both seasons, returning to the second season. The newly promoted General Registrar working under Head of Clinical Services Alistair Gillespie.

Gower joined the cast of the popular television show Being Human on BBC Three in 2012 as vampire attorney Nick Cutler. Todd Ryan and Alasdair Ramsey joined the group in 2006. They performed at The Cavern Club several times in North West England.
