Davis declared for the 2012 NBA draft, and the New Orleans Hornets used the first overall pick to select him. He recorded a new career best of 19 rebounds in January of 2014, and another one of 40 points and 21 rebounds in March. Davis and the Pelicans agreed to a five-year contract deal in the summer of 2015. Davis also made history by becoming the first Pelicans player to score 2,000 points in a single campaign. In the summer of 2019, Davis was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. He had 25 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in his NBA debut against the Los Angeles Clippers in October.
Later, in January 2020, Davis declined the Lakers’ offer of a four-year contract extension in favor of signing as a free agency. Davis re-signed with the Lakers on a five-year deal in late 2020. However, due to problems with his right calf and heel, he was primarily sidelined throughout the season. Davis missed the 2021 and 2022 seasons due to additional injuries.
