The channel ceased broadcasting at the end of November 2012 owing to “business factors” after being launched in India in May 2007 on the Tata Sky platform and on India Online Broadband Public Limited.

The channel debuted in Poland in December 2007 on Cyfrowy Polsat, and on September 1, 2008, it took the position of BBC Prime on South Africa’s DStv system. When it replaced BBC Prime on Canal Digital, Com Hem, Telia Digital-TV, and FastTV in November 2008, it was launched there together with its sibling stations (BBC Knowledge, BBC Lifestyle, and BBC HD).

In November 2009, the channel took over for BBC Prime in the Middle East and North Africa. BBC Entertainment is broadcast on the Telenet, Ziggo, and Naxoo cable networks in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland along with BBC One and BBC Two.

Astro discontinued the station on December 1st, 2009, and ITV Choice took its place. In Italy, Sky Italia similarly discontinued the channel on March 1. It became a pay-TV channel in 2010 thanks to Kabel Deutschland in Germany.

After being unavailable in Malaysia for three years, the channel was once again made available in August 2012 when Unifi bought it up. But in December 2015, Unifi discontinued the channel.

Along with BBC Earth and CBeebies, BBC Entertainment stopped broadcasting in Latin American nations on April 13, 2017.

On March 19, 2016, BBC First finally debuted in various Asian countries. Singapore the last broadcasts on Starhub TV ended on April 29, 2015, and the last ones in Hong Kong, Thailand, and Indonesia ended on January 1, 2017. On March 1st, 2018, broadcasts in Mongolia and Myanmar came to an end. On March 10, 2017, transmissions in Taiwan came to an end, and CBeebies took their place.
