He and his three siblings were nurtured in the small town of Kiln by his parents, Bonita Ann and Irvin Ernest, who both held teaching positions in the Hancock County School District. He was a great athlete so, football scholarships were awarded to Favre by the prestigious Southern Mississippi University. He was the seventh-string quarterback when the season began in his first year. In 15 of his college games, he passed for more than 200 yards, and five of those games saw him pass for more than 300 yards.
