Charlie Rose is an American journalist and TV broadcaster. From 1991 through 2017, he served as the anchor of the popular PBS program “Charlie Rose.” He also spent five years co-anchoring “CBS This Morning” with Norah O’Donnell and Gayle King.

Charlie Rose Early Life
He is the only child of tobacco farmers Charles Sr. and Margaret, was born in Henderson, North Carolina, in 1942. Rose attended Henderson High School as a teenager and excelled in the basketball team there. He enrolled at Duke University after his graduation. He originally intended to major in pre-medicine. Later he changed his mind after becoming interested in politics during an internship with North Carolina Senator, B. Everett Jordan. He earned a BA in history from Duke University in 1964 before going on to earn a JD from the University’s School of Law in 1968.

Rose started his journalism career in New York by working as a freelancer for the BBC. Later, in 1972, while employed by Bankers Trust, he was hired to work as a weekend correspondent for WPIX-TV. His major break, however, came two years later when Bill Moyers hired him as managing editor for his PBS program, “Bill Moyers’ International Report”. Charlie started appearing in front of the camera after taking on the role of executive producer for “Bill Moyers Journal”. Later, after honing his interviewing techniques at a variety of networks, he was hired as a program manager by Dallas-Fort Worth NBC affiliate station KXAS-TV. Rose served as the host of “CBS News Night watch” from 1984 to 1990. He received an Emmy Award in 1987 for the broadcast in which he interviewed the cult leader Charles Manson. After his time at CBS, Rose was named the host of the syndicated show “Personalities,” made by Fox TV. Charlie Rose’s curiosity and desire to learn about and experiment in new areas propelled him into acting. He made numerous cameos in a variety of films and TV shows. “The Good Wife”, “Breaking Bad”, “The House of Cards” and “Simpsons” are some of them.
