David Chase Early Life

Born in Mount Vernon, New York, Chase grew up between Clifton and North Caldwell, New Jersey. Even growing up he had a strong love for crime films and was famous for his storytelling abilities. Growing up in a rough household, Chase suffered from panic attacks and depression as a teenager and even as an adult. In 1964, he enrolled in Wake Forest University but his struggles with mental health issues kept him from studying. He decided to transfer to New York University after spending 2 years at Wake Forest. Chase decided to follow his childhood passion and pursue a career in filmmaking, a decision that was not well-received by his family. Despite their protests, he enrolled himself in the Stanford University – School of Films. In 1971, he graduated with a Master of Arts degree.

He started in Hollywood as a story editor and worked on Kolchak: The Night Stalker. After that, he started working as a producer for The Rockford Files and Northern Exposure. He worked as a writer, and producer, and also held other titles while working on The Rockford Files. David Chase also secured several Emmy Awards win during the early stages of his career. He was known for his screenplays and his production work. ‘Almost Grown’ was the first series that was the original creation of David Chase. The series was very well received critically.
