Donald Ray Franklin and Paulette Franklin reared Franklin in Oakland, California. Donald Ray and David Brandon Franklin are Franklin’s two brothers. The couple eventually divorced, and Paulette and her three young sons moved in with her parents. Franklin’s father died of a heart attack at the age of 36 a few years later.
