Doris Burke was born on April 11, 1965 in West Islip, New York. She is an American sports commentator and analyst who cover games for the NBA on ESPN, on ABC and the College Basketball on ABC networks. She finished her education at Manasaquan High School.

She continued her study at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. In college, Burke played for the Providence Friars basketball team, where she was the team’s assist leader. She first obtained a bachelor’s degree in social work and health services management before obtaining a master’s degree in education.

With three decades of experience covering basketball, Doris Burke is a broadcaster in the Hall of Fame and one of the top national NBA commentators. Burke offered commentary on ESPN Radio in 2020, making her the first female game commentator for the NBA Finals. Doris Burke became the first woman to hold a full-time position as a national NBA game analyst when ESPN named her to that position prior to the 2017–18 NBA season. Burke received the prestigious Curt Gowdy Media Award in 2018 by Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. Burke has worked for ESPN for a number of years, and throughout that time she has been a prominent analyst for the NBA and the WNBA. Additionally, she worked for ABC as the primary sideline reporter for the NBA Finals. She has won numerous accolades, including the 2017 WISE Women of the Year Award. Burke served as an analyst for regional BIG EAST and Atlantic-10 women’s basketball coverage from 1990 to 2000. She also worked for the MAAC Women’s Basketball Network, the ECAC Men’s and Women’s Weekly Telecasts and the Atlantic-10 Men’s Basketball Network. She worked for the Penn State Television Network for three years as a commentator for women’s basketball. She was admitted to the Providence College Hall of Fame in 2000. The university awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2005. She was named as one of the 15 Sports Ethics Fellows in 2002 by Institute for International Sport. She was elected into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. Later, in 2007, she was honored with the Rhode Island Women’s Center’s Woman of Excellence Trailblazer Award.
