Emiway Bantai Early Life
On November 13, 1995, in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, Bilal Shaikh was born. He was raised in a strict, orthodox Muslim home from the middle class. After Emiway was born, the entire family moved from Bengaluru to Mumbai, where Bilal grew up with his mother, father, and younger brother. His family has ties to Karnataka as well. At school, Bilal excelled in academics. He was a high student in his school and frequently came in first place during his time there. However, he did not interact with other kids very much. He enrolled in Lakshdham High School in Gukuldham, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, however after finishing his tenth grade, he started getting into rap music after hearing some of his friend’s rap tracks.
In his eleventh year, he switched his interest from MBBS to the rap scene. He met numerous rappers and began to follow them and their rhyming techniques. In May 2013, Emiway launched his rap music career by posting Glint Lock – Emiway Bantai Ft. Minta, a Hindi-English rap song, to YouTube. His two favorite rap artists, Lil Wayne and Eminem, inspired his stage name Emiway, and Bantai is a native Mumbai phrase that signifies Dude or Bro. After failing his 12th grade, Emiway’s father requested him to sing a rap song, and he responded by singing an English song. His Father advised him that singing in Hindi would help local listeners understand his song better and that only people who have studied music since they were young may become professional musicians.
Emiway believes that rap can only be done in English, but he persisted and developed a greater interest in creating Hindi Rap. He released another Hindi rap in March 2014 called Aur Bantai, which became an instant hit. The song later received a people’s choice award. After struggling with numerous financial issues and his personal costs, he began working as a laborer for 300 rupees per day at the Hard Rock Cafe.
Emiway Bantai Music Career Breakthrough
He and professional rapper “Raftaar” collaborated on the song “#Sadak” in 2017. However, a year later, he engaged in a heated conflict with Raftaar over their ascent. Raftaar’s comment that Emiway could never make money like that was the catalyst for Bantai to write the song “Samajh Mein Aaya Kya?” Ashish Chanchlani stole the melody from Raftaar’s song “Sheikh Chili” to create the song “The Student Anthem” in response. The conflict was not yet over since Bantai responded once again with the song “Giraftaar.” Emiway released a song called Machayenge in 2019 and it received a ton of positive feedback from listeners. Emiway makes his Bollywood debut in the 2019 film Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar.
