Farouk Shami was born on 15 December, 1942 in Beit Ur-al Tahta which is a village near Ramallah located in the West Bank. He has one brother named Jamil Shami. He did his graduation from University of Arkansas. He got enrolled in cosmetology school in Arkansas for PhD but failed to complete his degree.

After dropped out from cosmetology school, he moved to US with only 71 dollars in his pocket. He was on a hunt of job, and got the opportunity to work as a hair stylist in Houston. Some hair products which were full of ammonia gave him harmful effects which caused him severe allergy doctors advised him to leave his job. This case led him to invent first ammonia free hair color. He went on creating more skin care products and some tools.
After the success and popularity of his products, he opened his first company “Farouk Systems” in Houston which produced the best hair and skin products. He started his company in 1986. His company products are known all over the World in more than 106 countries. In 2009, he participated in the election in Texas for a post of governor but lost the election due to some controversies.
