Glover Teixeira, who is of Portuguese ancestry, was born on October 28, 1979, in the rural Brazilian village of Sobrália, Brazil. To his family, he relocated to Danbury, Connecticut in 1999, where he worked as a landscaper. He first met his wife, Ingrid, there. Teixeira trained in boxing at Hat City Boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu at American Top Team Connecticut after spending 10 to 12 hours a day working in landscaping. Teixeira was invited to train with Chuck Liddell at John Hackleman’s California gym after the trainer of a fighter was pleased by the young Brazilian.

On May 26, 2012, he made his professional debut against Kyle Kingsbury at UFC 146 and he won the first round by submission at 1:53 after a brief exchange. Teixeira gained a shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight title with the victory.
