Stenson started golf at a young age and started participating in junior and amateur tournaments in his teenage years. Stenson is a left hander naturally but he plays golf with his right hand. After showing a great play in amateur championship Stenson became a member of Swedish team at the Eisenhower Trophy 1998, in Santiago, Chile. The Swedish team finished 6th at the trophy and Stenson was the best Swedish player at the trophy.
Hnerik Stenson also became a professional golfer in 1998. After becoming professional, he topped the money list on the second tier European golf tour called the Challenge tour. In 2001, he joined the main European Tour and also won Benson and Hedges International Open that same year marking his first victory in the European Tour.
