Islam Makhachev Early Life

Islam was born in Makhachkala on 27 September 1991 in a middle-class family. Lak by ethnicity, Islam was raised in the isolated village of Burshi, which is now a part of Dagestan. Islam is also trained and competed in combat sambo and he took home the gold medal at the World Combat Sambo Championship of 2016. In the Sambo championship match of 2016, he defeated Bulgarian Valentin Benishev by 7-0.

On February 12, 2011, Islam faced Tengiz in his M-1 Global first fight and won in the first round. On August 21, 2013, Makhachev competed in M-1 Challenge 41 against Rander Junio, an unbeaten black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. At M-1 Challenge 49 on June 7, 2014, Makhachev challenged M-1 Global Yuri Ivlev. On September 7, 2014, Makhachev defeated his opponent Ivica Truscek by his submission in the 3rd round of the final fight for M-1 Global before joining the ultimate fighting championship.

Makhachev agreed to a four-fight deal with the UFC on October 2, 2014, and on 23 May 2015 at UFC 187, he finished Leo Kuntz in the second round. At UFC 192, Makhachev lost the game to Adriano Martins on October 3, 2015, the first defeat of his UFC career as a professional came in the first round of the game when he was knocked out. At UFC on Fox 19, Makhachev was scheduled to take on Drew Dober on April 16, 2016.

Makhachev failed an out-of-competition drug test and tested positive for the illegal anti-ischemic meldonium, the UFC reported following the weigh-ins. On July 28, 2018, Makhachev took on Kajan Johnson at UFC on Fox 30. Beneil and Makhachev were supposed to fight on February 26, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 2022 but Dariush withdrew from the competition due to an ankle ailment.  However, Bobby Green was reportedly brought in to fill his place on February 12, 2022.
