Joe Montana Early Life
Joe Montana was born on June 11, 1956 in the area of New Eagle, Pennsylvania as Joseph Clifford Montana, Jr. Joe learned how to play football from his father, and at the age of eight, he joined a youth football team. North Carolina State offered him a basketball scholarship, which he declined. When Joe joined the football team, he was a backup for the first two years. However, in his junior year, he was appointed the starting quarterback, and in his senior year, “Parade” magazine named him an All-American quarterback (1974). On January 1, 1979, Notre Dame participated in the Cotton Bowl. Despite suffering from hypothermia due to the freezing cold, Montana assisted the squad in scoring three touchdowns in the final minutes of the game. Montana earned a degree in business administration and marketing when he graduated in 1979. Later following year, Joe was taken 82nd overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the NFL Draft.
