Early Life
John was born in June, 1958 in Massachusetts, United States. Legere competed in national running competitions on college level and later. He currently does so with coworkers in events. As part of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Marathon Challenge squad, he finished the Boston Marathon in 2004.
Career
Legere became the CEO of T-Mobile US in September 2012 and has since been known for T-“Un-carrier” Mobile’s strategy for wireless networks without contracts. He started out in the industry at New England Telephone. After that, Legere worked for over twenty years at AT&T, where he briefly assisted Daniel Hesse, a former CEO of “Sprint Corporation”. From April 1994 until November 1997, he headed AT&T Global Strategy and Business Development in addition to being the AT&T Asia CEO. He presided over AT&T Solutions, AT&T’s global outsourcing arm, from 1997 to 1998.
From 1998 to February 2000, Legere served as senior vice president of Dell, president, and chief operating officer for Dell’s operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and president, Asia-Pacific. From February 2000 to January 2002, he served as CEO of Asia Global Crossing. From October 2001 to October 2011, he served as CEO of Global Crossing, where he guided the company through bankruptcy before it was eventually acquired by Level 3 Communications.
As of April 30, 2020, when his current contract expires, Legere revealed on his Twitter account in November 2019 that he would be leaving his position as CEO of T-Mobile US. As a result of the early completion of the merger with Sprint, Legere formally left his position as CEO on April 1, 2020.
