Kyle Newachek Early Life:
Kyle Newacheck was born in Walnut Creek, California in January 1984. He studied at The Los Angeles Film School, earning a degree in editing in 2004. He started a sketch group soon after graduation with future Workaholics actors Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, and Anders Holm. Before starting the sketch-comedy ensemble, he worked as an editing teacher at his former university. He has been instructing editing at the Los Angeles Film School since he was 22 years old. In the school’s ten-year history, he was the school’s youngest instructor.
Kyle Newachek Career:
Newachek started his career by writing, directing and editing comedic short films; most notably the “Crossbows and Moustaches” web series for My space. Workaholics, a Comedy Central comedy that aired for seven seasons, was co-created by Newacheck in 2011. Newacheck also co-stars in the show as the drug dealer Karl Hevacheck. Additionally, about half of the Workaholics episodes were directed by him. Since then, he has developed into a marginally successful television comedy director. He has penned scenes for Happy Endings, Community, Parks and Recreation and other shows. Kyle directed the TV series shorts 5th Year in 2008, Adam Devine’s House Party in 2013 and Preppy Hippies in 2000. In addition to direction, Newachek also served as an executive producer for all of these shows. For his direction of the comedy series Community, he received an Online Film and Television Award in 2012. In 2013, he received a nomination for the same honor for Parks and Recreation. In 2014, he and his brother Adam co-directed the music video for Childish Gambino’s song, “The Worst Guys.”
It was revealed in June 2016 that Devine, Anderson, Holm and Newacheck were working on a movie with Seth Rogen serving as producer. The movie, “Game Over, Man!” made its Netflix debut in 2018. On the FX series “What We Do in the Shadows”, he has been a co-executive producer and director since 2019. He is currently nominated in the Prime Time Emmy Awards for his work in “What we do in the shadows”.
