Louis Jude Ferrigno Sr. is better known as Lou Ferrigno or “The Hulk” is an Italian American actor and former professional bodybuilder. Ferrigno participated in the documentary Pumping Iron and won two consecutive IFBB Mr. Universe championships in addition to an IFBB Mr. America title. His most well-known work is playing the title character in the CBS television series The Incredible Hulk and verbally recreating it in later computer-animated and animated versions.

Lou Ferrigno Early life
Matt Ferrigno, a police lieutenant, and Victoria Ferrigno welcomed Ferrigno into the world on November 9, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York and he has Italian ancestry. Although his illness was not discovered until he was three years old, Ferrigno claims he believes he suffered from a series of ear infections shortly after birth and lost 75 to 80 percent of his hearing. During his childhood, peers ridiculed Ferrigno because of his speech impediment and hearing loss by calling him “deaf” and “mute.” At this time, he started reading comic novels like Hulk and Spider-Man.
Ferrigno began lifting weights at the age of 13, claiming Steve Reeves, a bodybuilder, and Hercules actor, as one of his role models. He created his own weights out of a broomstick and pails that he partially filled with cement because he could not afford to buy weights. Ferrigno known as Hulk studied metalworking at Brooklyn Technical High School and earlier studies at St. Athanasius Grammar School.

Lou won IFBB Mr. America in the year 1969, the same year Lou earned his high school diploma. He received the IFBB Mr. Universe title four years later. He was trained with the popular Arnold in Columbus, early in his career while living in Columbus. Mr. Hulk does finish the first effort at the Mr. Olympia competition, the most prestigious championship, in 1974, in second place. The next year, he finished third, and the 1977 film Pumping Iron documented his attempt to defeat Arnold Schwarzenegger. Nevertheless, he was unable to make a livelihood off his achievements. For three years, he worked as a sheet metal worker at $10 per hour in a Brooklyn plant.
After that, Ferrigno spent several years away from competition, with the exception of a brief period when he played defensive line with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League and after breaking a Canadian football teammate’s legs during a scrimmage, Lou quit the Canadian football. In 1977, Ferrigno participated in the inaugural World’s Strongest Man competition, where he placed fourth out of eight contestants. Ferrigno made a comeback to his bodybuilding career in the early 1990s, vying for the Mr. Olympia championships in 1992 & 1993. After placing 12th and 10th, respectively, he moved on to the 1994 Masters Olympia, where the 1996 documentary Stand Tall focused on his attempt to defeat Boyer Coe and Robbie Robinson. Ferrigno played the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk in 1977 and Bill Bixby, who portrayed the Hulk’s “decent” alter ego, and Lou Ferrigno grew close even though they were rarely seen together on camera. Although the final two episodes were not aired until May 1982, Ferrigno continued to portray the Hulk character until 1981. Lou made special appearances in “Battle of the Network Stars” in November 1978 and in May 1979. In the scientific fantasy action movie Hercules in 1983, he played the title role. Ferrigno was ranked as the eighth “hottest Hercules ever on cinema” by Decider in 2014.
Ferrigno portrayed John Six in the brief-lived medical drama Trauma Center in 1983. He portrayed the Hulk and made cameo cameos as a security guard in the Hulk films from 2003 and The Incredible Hulk in 2008. He later voiced the Hulk without a credit in more Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.
