Jewish parents gave birth to Schur in 1975 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, and his parents are Warren M. Schur and Anne Herbert. When he was 11 years old and read Woody Allen’s 1975 collection of hilarious essays titled Without Feathers, he first developed an interest in comedy. Schur attended Connecticut’s West Hartford’s William H. Hall High School. In 1997, Schur earned a B.A. in English with a Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University, where he also served as president of the Harvard Lampoon.
