James Mason, an actor, and Pamela Mason, an actress, and commentator, were his English parents, and Mason was born on June 26, 1955, in Los Angeles, California. Gaumont-British Picture Corporation president Isidore Ostrer was his grandpa and a financier and producer of motion pictures. Mason made his film debut as a young child in Hero’s Island (1962), which he co-starred in alongside his father, and in The Sandpiper (1965), which starred Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
