Peter Berg Early Life:

On March 11, 1964, Peter Winkler Berg was born in New York City. He was raised by a Christian mother named Sally and a Jewish father named Laurence (a U.S. Marine). He has a younger sister named Mary. H. G. Bissinger is a second cousin of Berg. His book “Friday Night Lights” served as the inspiration for Berg’s film and television series of the same name. When Berg was a child, his mother co-founded Catalog for Giving and worked in a mental health facility. He graduated in 1980 from The Taft School in Watertown and later enrolled in Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Peter Berg has a double major in theatre history and theatre arts from there. He went to Los Angeles the year after receiving his degree in 1984.

After relocating to Los Angeles, Berg worked as a production assistant. He made his film debut in 1988 in the drama “Miracle Mile” and a “21 Jump Street” episode. Peter has made appearances in several movies:

After “Friday Night Lights,” Berg released the suspenseful 2007 film “The Kingdom,” starring Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, and Jennifer Garner. Next, Peter directed the 2008 superhero movie “Hancock,” starring Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman. Time magazine and The New York Times voted his 2009 Hulu commercial with Alec Baldwin, the finest Super Bowl XLIII ad. That same year, he also filmed the ESPN documentary “Kings Ransom.” He wrote the 2010 action movie “The Losers”.  In 2012, he directed the $303 million-grossing movie “Battleship.” Then, Berg produced and directed the 2013 military drama “Lone Survivor”. He also directed two episodes of the 2014 HBO series “The Leftovers.”
