On March 11, 1964, Peter Winkler Berg was born in New York City. He was raised by a Christian mother named Sally and a Jewish father named Laurence (a U.S. Marine). He has a younger sister named Mary. H. G. Bissinger is a second cousin of Berg. His book “Friday Night Lights” served as the inspiration for Berg’s film and television series of the same name. When Berg was a child, his mother co-founded Catalog for Giving and worked in a mental health facility. He graduated in 1980 from The Taft School in Watertown and later enrolled in Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Peter Berg has a double major in theatre history and theatre arts from there.
