Quincy Delight Jones, Sr. and Sarah Frances Jones welcomed Quincy on 14 March 1933 into the world in Chicago. Jones’s father divorced his mother and remarried because she had schizophrenia when Jones was a little child and had been checked into a mental hospital. He attended Seattle’s Garfield High School and was active in music the entire time. In 1951, he started a band with his classmates and received a scholarship at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. He left education in between and set off on a tour with a band as a trumpeter and from then on his professional musical career started.

Even though he was still booking concerts as a trumpet player in New York, his abilities as an arranger were soon recognized. Playing in a band for Elvis Presley’s first televised performances in 1956 was one of his earliest employment. He began residing in Paris after taking globe tours. He eventually began serving as the music director for the French record label Barclay.

As Jones developed his craft by the middle of the 1960s, he began to create his own hit albums and write music for movies and television, which helped African-American music become more and more well-liked in Hollywood.
