Prior to entering the Trump administration, Tillerson was the chairman and CEO of ExxonMobil, a post he held from 2006 until 2017.

Rex Tillerson Early Life
Tillerson was brought into the world on Walk 23, 1952, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He grew up in Vernon, TX, and Huntsville, TX. Rae Ann Hamilton, a physician, and Jo Lynn Peters, a high school teacher, are his two sisters. Tillerson has been a Boy Scout for much of his life and achieved the title of Eagle Scout in his boyhood. He started working as a busboy at Oklahoma State University’s student union when he was 14 years old. In 1968, he started working as a janitor at one of the university’s engineering buildings. In 1975, Tillerson started working for Exxon Company USA as a production engineer. Tillerson was appointed general manager of Exxon USA’s core production branch in 1989. He was elected president of Esso Exploration and Production Khorat Inc. and Exxon Yemen Inc. in 1995. In 1998, he was appointed president of Exxon Neftegas Limited and vice president of Exxon Ventures (CIS), where he was in charge of Exxon’s properties in Russia and the Caspian Sea. Exxon was then included in the Sakhalin-I cooperation alongside Rosneft.
After Exxon and Mobil merged in 1999, he was appointed executive vice president of the ExxonMobil Development Company. He was appointed ExxonMobil’s president and director in 2004. Infineum, an ExxonMobil company based in Europe, operated in the Middle East between 2003 and 2005 and sold goods to Iran, Sudan, and Syria. Leaders at ExxonMobil made sure to abide with all legal requirements, and such sales paled in comparison to their $371 billion yearly income at the time. ExxonMobil paid $31 billion in equity to purchase XTO Energy, a significant producer of natural gas, in 2009.
