Romário de Souza Faria achieved worldwide fame through his career as a professional footballer. He is currently a politician in Brazil. Romário was a striker with great finishing skills. Over the course of his career, he scored a total of 750 goals.

Considered as one of the greatest players of all time, Romário was the first footballer to score at least 100 goals for three different clubs. He played for Brazil national team and helped the team win the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He received the Golden Ball as player of the tournament in that world cup, and that same year he was named FIFA World Player of the Year. In 1999 internet poll for FIFA Player of the Century, Romário came fifth. He was also a member in FIFA World Cup Dream Team in 2002. In 2004, he was named by Pele on FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players. In 1988, Romário won the silver Olympic medal in Seoul as part of the Brazilian team. He was the top goal scorer, scoring seven goals in six games. He played 85 international matches and scored 71 goals, making him he 4th highest goal scorer in Brazilian team history. He scored the only goal on 1989 Copa America’s final, leading Brazil to a victory. He also helped Brazil win another Copa America and FIFA Confederations cup in 1997.

In 1988, Romário moved to PSV Eindhoven club in the Netherlands. He played for PSV for 5 seasons and helped them win Eredivisie championship 3 times. He played 167 games for PSV and scored 165 goals.

After the 5 seasons with PSV, he moved to FC Barcelona in 1993. He helped Barcelona win La Liga during his first season for the team and was the season’s top goal scorer with 30 goals in 33 matches. After leaving Barcelona, he started playing for Brazilian clubs, Romário helped CR Vasco da Gama win Brazilian league title in 2000. He was named as top goal scorer of the Brazilian league three times. Shortly before his retirement, he also played for clubs in Qatar, United States, and Australia.

His high stamina and speed are what makes him the best striker. He scored 780 goals in 1000 official games, making him the 7th highest goal scorer in the history of the game.

Romário ended his career in 2009 and started his political career in 2010. He was elected as a deputy for the Brazilian Socialist Party. He became a senator in 2014 and in 2021 he joined the Liberal Party.
