T.J. Dillashaw Early Life and Wrestling Career

Dillashaw was born on 7 February 1986 to Hal and Janice Dillashaw in Sonora, California, and in Angels Camp, California, he was raised. Dillashaw was a four-time sectional qualifier and a two-time CIF state qualifier while wrestling for Coach Jan Schulz at Bret Harte High School.

 As a senior, he completed with a 52-6 record and a 170-33 overall record after finishing second at the CIF State Championships. Dillashaw obtained a full scholarship to wrestle for the Titans of Cal State Fullerton after having a good high school career. He weighed 132.25 pounds and finished sixth in the University Greco Wrestling Championships in Akron, Ohio, in April 2007.

Mark Muoz encouraged Dillashaw to join the Reign Training Center fighter class at the end of his senior year while coaching at Cal State Fullerton for three years and competing in the middleweight division of the UFC. After a year and a half of training with Team Reign, Munoz urged Dillashaw to transfer north to Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, CA. Dillashaw made his professional debut on March 26, 2010, against Czar Sklavos, who was also making his debut.
