The-Dream was born on 20 September, 1977 in Rockingham, North Carolina, United states from where he moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his mother Reva Nash at the age of 2. During his time in elementary school, he learned to play trumpet, drums, and guitar. After the death of his mother in 1992, he was inspired to write songs & developed a soft corner for females; leading him to write songs about women empowerment. He then moved on to live with his grandfather, a concrete mason by profession. His grandfather developed great work ethic in him. He has 9 children in total from three different marriages with:

In 2001, he began his music career officially with the help of R&B producer Laney Stewart. That is when Nash wrote ‘Everything’ for B2K boys’ band in their album ‘Pandemonium’.
