Wright was raised in Jupiter, Florida. At the age of 4, he began skating for the first time. He immediately rose to prominence as a skateboarder in his native country Florida. Wright left his birthplace for Los Angeles, California when he was 16 years old in an effort to further his skateboarding career. Wright’s decision to go pro with Real Skateboards in November 2017 indicated that the move had paid off.

He finished second in his first-ever Simple Session competition. Zion competed in the last park skateboarding tournament in 2021. He finished 114th in the world and 16th among Americans in Tokyo qualifying. He needed to win the Dew Tour event in Des Moines to have any chance of making the US Team, so he put on a remarkable performance to claim victory and a spot in the Games.
