Aaron Spelling Early Life:

Aaron Spelling was born on April 22, 1923, in Dallas, Texas to Pearl and David. He has one sister and three brothers. His parents were immigrants of Russian and Jewish descent. Following his immigration to America, David changed his last name from Spurling to Spelling. At the age of eight, Aaron experienced a nervous breakdown due to anti-Semitic abuse from his peers. He was bedridden for a year. He spent time reading Mark Twain and O. Henry books. Because of this phase in his life, he developed a strong passion for fiction writing and made the decision to work in the entertainment industry. After graduating from Forest Avenue High School he served as the Army Air Corps Pilot during World War II. Later, he attended Southern Methodist University earning a journalism degree there in 1949.

Following graduation, Aaron fled to Hollywood to live out his long-held passion. He first tried his hand at acting, then writing before finally finding great success as a producer. In 1953, Spelling made his acting debut in the movie “Vicki” and guest-starred on “Dragnet” and “I Led Three Lives”. In 1954, he sold his first script to the anthology series “Jane Wyman Presents”. The following year, he made appearances on “I Love Lucy” and “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”. From 1956 through 1961, Aaron wrote for the Western anthology series “Zane Grey Theatre”. In 1960 he started working as one of the program’s producers. He co-founded Thomas-Spelling Productions with Danny Thomas. He founded Aaron Spelling Productions in 1972.Later he joined hands with Leonard Goldberg and found Spelling-Goldberg Productions. He was appointed vice-chairman of Spelling Entertainment, Inc. in 1995 and chairman of the company’s subsidiary Spelling Television. Hamilton Projects, Republic Pictures, and World Vision (syndication) are all owned by Spelling Entertainment. It also owns Virgin Interactive, a software company. The merchandise for Spelling’s productions is handled by Hamilton Projects. Some of the shows produced by him include:
