Andy Jassy Early Life
Jassy is the son of New York residents Margery and Everett L. Jassy. He was born on 13 January 1968. Jassy comes from Hungarian descent and is Jewish. His father was a senior partner and chairman of the management committee at the corporate law firm “Dewey Ballantine” in New York City. Jassy was raised in Scarsdale. He went to Scarsdale High School where he participated in varsity tennis and soccer. Prior to receiving an MBA from Harvard Business School, Jassy graduated with honors, cum laude, in government from Harvard College. He also served as The Harvard Crimson’s advertising manager there.

After graduating, Jassy spent five years working before pursuing his MBA. He worked as a project manager at MBI. Andy Jassy founded a company with an MBI employee but later shut it down. He joined Amazon in 1997. He started out as a marketing manager. The concept for the cloud computing platform which became known as “Amazon Web Services” was developed in 2003 by Jassy and Jeff Bezos. It was launched in 2006. Jassy was the one to head AWS and its team of 57 people. The Financial Times selected Jassy as “Person of the Year” in 2016. A month later, he was elevated from senior vice president to CEO of AWS. 10,000 shares were granted to Jassy in 2018 and they will vest in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. As per Form 4 submitted to the SEC, Andrew has traded Amazon.com stock more than 61 times since 2011.
