Bob Gale was born in 1951 in University City, Missouri. Michael Robert Gale is his birth name. He spent his formative years writing and drawing his own comic books. Bob Gale graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Cinema from USC in 1973. He is best known as the co-creator, co-writer and co-producer of Back to the Future (1985) and its sequels. As a child, he had a desire of getting to Hollywood and working with Walt Disney, who was his hero. He co-founded a well-known comic book club in St. Louis as a teen. He also published his own comic book, The Green Vomit. Later, using the persona name “Commando Cus”, he and his brother, Charlie created their own amateur three-film series spoof of the Republic Pictures Commando Cody serials.

Although these films have seen their fair share of fame, none of them may be as well-known as the ’80s classic “Back to the Future.” Gale and Zemeckis collaborated on “Back to the Future Part II” and “Back to the Future Part III” in 1989 and 1990, respectively. They also received Oscar nominations for their screenplay. In honor of the film’s 30th anniversary, he and Zemeckis worked on a musical version of “Back to the Future”. The musical premiered in 2015. Director Steven Spielberg often referred to him and Robert Zemeckis as “The Bobs.” In addition to writing for motion pictures and occasionally television, Gale has written comic books too. He has written for Batman from DC Comics and Ant-Man’s Big Christmas from Marvel Comics. Gale also wrote Daredevil for Marvel Comics.
