Oliveira was born on 17 October 1989 in a low-income household in the Brazilian resort town of Guarujá. At age 7, Charles was given the news that he had the rheumatic disease and a heart murmur. When Oliveira was just a 12 years old boy, his neighbor Paulo introduced him to famous Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
