Christopher Lloyd (born June 18, 1960) is a screenwriter and television producer from the United States. Lloyd is the co-creator and executive producer of Modern Family, an ABC mockumentary family sitcom he co-created and produced with Steven Levitan. Lloyd has worked on a variety of shows, most notably Frasier.

Lloyd Early Life

He was born in June 1960 in Waterbury, Connecticut. David Lloyd, his father, wrote for several comedies, including Taxi, Cheers, The Bob Newhart Show, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. From 1991 through 1993, Christopher Lloyd worked as a supervising producer on the television series Wings. From 1993 through 2004, he was an executive and co-executive producer on the television sitcom Frasier. Lloyd executive produced the 2005 series Out of Practice and the 2007-2008 series Back to You. He has been the executive producer of the television series Modern Family, which he co-created, since 2009.

Career

Lloyd began writing for television during the first four seasons of The Golden Girls. He subsequently wrote for the sitcom Wings before moving on to Frasier, where he became showrunner. Frasier won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series five years in a row when he was executive producer, the first time any series has done so.  Lloyd departed Frasier after the seventh season, only to return for the last (eleventh) season. He went on to create the shows Out of Practice (where he initially collaborated with Modern Family’s Ty Burrell), Back To You, and Modern Family, which won the award for five years in a row. Lloyd’s work as a screenwriter includes the animated feature picture Flushed Away (2006), for which he got an Annie Award. He signed an overall agreement with Paramount in 2000. He left in 2006 to co-found Fox with Steven Levitan.

Lloyd is the son of Arline and David Lloyd, a sitcom writer (1934–2009). He has been married to actor, writer, and voiceover performer Arleen Sorkin since 1995, and they have two boys, Eli and Owen.
