Career

Term constraints precluded incumbent State Representative Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall from seeking re-election in 2008. Stafford competed in the Democratic primary to succeed her in the 109th Congressional District. She was defeated by former State Representative James Bush by 132 votes in a crowded nine-candidate field, garnering 27% of the vote to Bush’s 28%.
