On August 13, 1957, David Crane was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents, Joan, a Philadelphia newswoman, and Gene, a Jew, raised him in a Jewish home. After graduating in 1975 from Harriton High School in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, David went on to Brandeis University where he received his degree in 1979.
