David Foster was born on 1 November 1949 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. His father was an office worker, and his mother was a homemaker. He joined the University of Washington music program in 1963. In 1965, he auditioned for a lead in a band owned by Tommy Banks. David Foster produced records and handled the music business. He left the band after a year and joined Ronnie Hawkins in Toronto. In 1966, he joined the band Chuck Berry and in 1974 he joined the band Skylark.

David Foster was a keyboardist for Skylark. In 1973, the band made a hit song “Wildflower”. The group was disbanded, and Foster formed a new band Airplay. In 1979, David Foster was a major contributor to the album “I Am” by Earth, Wind, and Fire. In 1980 David Foster and his co-workers won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song. He worked as a producer for The Tubes. Foster co-wrote the song “Talk to Ya Later” a top hit song “Don’t Want to Wait Anymore” and the top 10 hit “She’s a Beauty”.
