David Foster was born on 1 November 1949 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. His father was an office worker, and his mother was a homemaker. He joined the University of Washington music program in 1963. In 1965, he auditioned for a lead in a band owned by Tommy Banks. David Foster produced records and handled the music business. He left the band after a year and joined Ronnie Hawkins in Toronto. In 1966, he joined the band Chuck Berry and in 1974 he joined the band Skylark.

In 1979, David Foster was a major contributor to the album “I Am” by Earth, Wind, and Fire. In 1980 David Foster and his co-workers won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song. He worked as a producer for The Tubes. Foster co-wrote the song “Talk to Ya Later” a top hit song “Don’t Want to Wait Anymore” and the top 10 hit “She’s a Beauty”. In 1980 he co-wrote and played the keyboard on Scaggs’s most successful songs. In the 1980s David Foster worked as a producer for the jazz-rock band Chicago. In 1986 David Foster co-wrote the no.1 hit song “Glory of Love”. Rolling Stone magazine named Foster “the master of the bombastic pop kitsch”. In 1985 he composed a hit song that made its way to Billboard Hot 100. He wrote hit songs for other films. In 1995 he signed a deal with Warner Brothers and in 1997 he became a senior vice president at the corporation.
