David Toms Career

He was born and raised in Monroe and he attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. David Toms Biography Toms was member of the golf team at the university.

He earned his first full tour card for the 1992 season but after that due to his lack of performance he lost his rights to play at the 1995 season. He played Nike tour that year and earned two tournament wins including the Greater Greenville classic and Wichita Open. These victories earned him a card to play in 1996, season of PGA tour. Toms again failed to make an impression at the PGA tour however, he did manage to get qualified for his first major championship. In the year 1997, he won his first PGA Tour. In 1998, he was a runner up at the Tucson Chrysler Classic. He also finished with in the top six of the Masters, securing his best finish at a major championship.

Toms had seven top ten finishes at the 1999 PGA Tour. His win at the Sprint international earned him his second title. He also tied at 2nd position at the Reno-Tahoe Open. Toms won his 3rd PGA tour title at the Buick Challenge. Tom tied at number fourth at the Open Championship in the year 2000.

Year 2001 was Toms most successful year. He secured three wins on the tour and had nine top ten finishes. He won his fifth PGA title and then went on to win his first major Championship by winning PGA champion. In the same year he successfully defended his title at the Michelob Championship. Between the years 2002 and 2006, Toms secured 5 more wins. He won his first World golf championship by winning at the WGC Accenture Match play championship. During 2008, Toms played only a few events due to his injuries. He eventually made a comeback the next season and secured few wins.

Toms showed a great performance at the U.S. open in 2012 when he finished T-4.

Tom also has a golf course architecture company. He has expressed his desire to be a golf course designer for full time after retiring from golf. The first golf course which Toms designed as a lead designer was Carter Plantation in Louisiana.

He also developed the David Toms Foundation in 2003. The purpose of his foundation is to help underprivileged and abused children. Toms foundation managed to raise almost 1.5 million dollars for Hurricane Katrina relief. In 2006, he was awarded Charlie Bennet Award for his efforts.
