Dwight was a basketball fanatic from a young age and was raised as a devoted Christian. He was a power forward during his high school career and compiled an amazing resume. He played predominantly power forward and went to Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, in 129 games, he averaged 16.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, and 6.3 blocks. He eventually gained recognition as the top high school basketball player in the nation, and an NBA career seemed to be in his future.

In high school, Howard was such a bright young star that he decided to forego college and join the NBA. In 2004, the Orlando Magic selected him, and he joined a team that desperately needed motivation. In his second season, Dwight got better, gaining an additional 20 pounds of muscle, and becoming a more powerful force on the field. The following year, he took on the role of de facto team captain and guided the Magic to the playoffs, where they were soundly defeated by Detroit.
