On January 26, 1958, DeGeneres was born in Metairie, Louisiana. Ellen’s father Elliott worked as an insurance agent in a local firm, and Ellen’s mother Elizabeth was a speech therapist in a hospital. Her brother Vance, is a musician and record producer and works with her also. Her parents divorced when she was a teenager, and she reportedly used creative ways to make her mother laugh to help her get through the difficult time. After her parents’ divorced in 1974, her mother remarried and relocated to Atlanta, Texas, with her new husband and Ellen from New Orleans.
