Emilio Estefan Gómez was born on 4 March 1953 in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. He used to play accordion in his teens on the streets for money. He lived briefly in Spain after fleeing from Fidel Castro’s regime in 1967. He shifted to Miami, Florida, United States with his father. His parents were Emilio Estefan, Sr., and Carmen Maria Gomez. His father’s family was of Lebanese-Syrian descent and her mother was a Spanish immigrant. He married fellow musician Gloria Estefan on 2 September 1978. They have two children together named Nayib and Emily.

Their journey for Emilio began in 1975 in Miami. He formed a band named Miami Sound Machine. He met Gloria Fajardo during those days and asked her to join his band along with her friend. Soon after joining, she became the lead singer of the band. Together, the band enjoyed huge success across the globe. In the 80s & 90s, they sold and produced over 15 albums & toured around the world. Besides that, he was recognized as a reputed producer. Famous names joined him during that era namely: Shakira, Ricky Martin, and Jennifer Lopez. He helped produce their music and career progress. Emilio Estefan then went on to produce Hispanic tv programs. He produced and directed the documentary film 90 Millas on Cuban music history. He arranged many awards shows especially in the Hispanic market. Emilio wrote two books as well named: The Rhythm of Success and second one The Exile Experience: A Journey to Freedom. He has also arranged several White House musical events. He did production work and songwriting for several big music artists’ albums that include Laundry Service and Donde Estan Los drones. By Shakira, Ricky Martin and Sound Loaded by artist Ricky Martin, and The 6 by Jennifer Lopez. Other artists that he worked with are Jon Secada, Marc Anthony, and Thalia.
