Jack Roush Early Life
Roush was raised in Manchester, Ohio, after being born in Covington, Kentucky on 19 April 1942. He graduated from Berea College with a degree in mathematics and a minor in physics and from Eastern Michigan University with a master’s degree in scientific mathematics. After graduating in 1966, Roush went to work for Ford before leaving in 1970 to start his own business. Before leaving to start his own engineering company, he spent a year working at Chrysler. Later, Roush joined forces with Wayne Gapp to compete in drag racing competitions sanctioned by the NHRA, IHRA, and AHRA. Roush sold the components he created for his team throughout the majority of his career.
Jack Roush Success
In 1988, he established Roush Fenway Racing, his own NASCAR Sprint Cup Series organization. Presently, RFK Racing fields two vehicles in the NASCAR Cup Series (driven by Chris Buescher, and Brad Keselowski). In NASCAR’s top three series, Roush has won eight championships as a vehicle owner: two Cup titles, five Xfinity Series crowns, and a Camping World Truck Series. As a vehicle owner, Roush has won the Daytona 500 twice, in 2009 and 2012, both times with driver Matt Kenseth. Since Roush started competing in NASCAR, his team has had 283 victories and 212 pole positions. Roush has been a vocal critic of Toyota’s NASCAR efforts during his NASCAR tenure.
High-performance crate engines, parts, and a range of cars are all sold by Roush Performance. With more than 16,000 vehicles currently on the road, they are perhaps best known for their range of modified Ford Mustangs.
Jack Roush Plane Crash
Roush nearly perished on April 19, 2002, his 60th birthday, when his Aircam crashed in a lake in Troy, Alabama. When Larry Hicks pulled Roush from the water unconscious, he was submerged. In Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on July 27, 2010, Roush lost control of his Hawker Beechcraft Premier 390 airplane while it was coming in to land for the EAA Air Venture Oshkosh airshow. He exited the aircraft on his own and was then driven to a local hospital. He later acknowledged that he suffered a broken jaw, a damaged back, and vision loss in his left eye as a result.
