Josh Schwartz Early Life
Schwartz, the son of Steve and Honey Schwartz, was born into a Jewish household in Providence, Rhode Island, on 6 August 1976. With a younger brother named Danny and a younger sister named Katie, Schwartz was raised on the east side of Providence, Rhode Island. Schwartz won an essay writing competition at a sleep-away camp when he was seven years old for a critique of the just-released film Gremlins. At the age of twelve, he even obtained a subscription to Variety, a newspaper for the entertainment industry. He spent 11 years attending the private Wheeler School in Providence, a coeducational independent day school, and he graduated in 1994.

Schwartz enrolled in film school to pursue screenwriting at the University of Southern California in 1995. (USC). As part of his schoolwork for his sophomore year, he authored Providence, an autobiographical screenplay about his last year of high school. The most prestigious award given to undergraduates is the Nicholson Award in Screenwriting, he entered his script into the competition and won. Nevertheless, he was able to sell his screenplay to Hollywood because of the connections he made through his fraternity. While he was still a junior in college, Sony’s TriStar Pictures purchased his first script in a competitive auction for a contract that guaranteed $550,000 and could have been for up to $1 million. It was not produced till now.

In 2003, he created the pilot for The O.C. for Warner Bros, Schwartz broke the record for the youngest television show creator at age 26. Fox premiered The O.C. in 2003, and it ran for four seasons. The pilot episode earned Schwartz a Writers Guild of America Award nomination. The second and third seasons of the program each took home four Teen Choice Awards. Gossip Girl was created by Schwartz following the O.C. The program received 18 Teen Choice Awards while airing on the CW from 2007 to 2012. From 2007 until 2012, Schwartz served as the executive producer of the NBC sitcom Chuck. The programs Cult, Astronaut Wives Club, and The Carrie Diaries were all produced by him. The CW program Hart of Dixie was also executive produced by Schwartz.
