Kurt Sutter Early Life
Born in Rahway, New Jersey, Sutter grew up in Clark, New Jersey. In 1982, he completed his high school education from Roselle Catholic High School. He joined journalism department of Rutgers University at the Livingston College and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in mass media. He also had English as his minor subject. Later, he moved to New York City and started studying Meisner technique. While there he also performed at theatre and taught at a Poole Conservatory. In 1997, Sutter enrolled into Northern Illinois University. He studied there for three years and earned a M.F.A in performance and directing.
Kurt Sutter Career
Sutter started out as a staff writer for FX’s 2002 crime drama ‘The Shield’. He also made his acting debut in the show and was promoted to story editor and co-producer as the series progressed. He became the supervising producer of the show in 2005. Later, he made his way to become an executive producer for the show and during the final season of the show, in 2008 Kurt was credited as the executive producer and writer for the show.

In 2008, Sutter started working on creating an original series for FX. He created ‘Sons of Anarchy’ which was show that revolved around a titular motorcycle club in a fictitious town that Sutter created. As a research for the show, he spent time with outlaw motorcycle club in Northern California. Sutter was the head writer and show runner for the series and wrote sixty-one episodes for the show. He also acted in the show and played ‘Otto Delany’. Sutter worked with a lot of the team members he knew from the sets of The Shield. Some of the actors of the series were also seen in ‘Sons of Anarchy’ along with crew members. He served as writer, executive producer, and co-runner for the show. The show was started in 2008 and ended with a final seventh season in 2014. He also created a spin off series for his ‘Sons of Anarchy’ show titled ‘Mayans M.C.’.
Sutter also wrote the screenplay for Jake Gyllenhaal’s acclaimed movie ‘Southpaw’ in 2010. He made his first feature film appearance in 2021 film ‘Chaos Walking’.
In 2019, it was revealed that Sutter will no longer work for FX due to unprofessional conduct.
