Lana Wood Career:

Natalie, Lana’s older sister, became a child star in the late 1940s with such masterpieces as Miracle the 34th Street (1947). Lana was eventually attracted into movies as a result of Natalie’s tremendous success. She appeared in Natalie’s 1947 “B” movie Driftwood as a newborn, but her adorable scene was later deleted. As a younger version of Natalie’s character, she earned her first acting credit in the John Ford classic The Searchers (1956), and from there, she quickly rose to prominence. Lana set out to land TV roles in an effort to escape her sister’s looming shadow and carve out a place for herself in Hollywood. She did well on hit shows like Playhouse 90, Have Gun, Will Travel, Dr. Kildare and The Fugitive. She continued to make small cameos in movies like Marjorie Morningstar, Five Finger Exercise and The Girls on the Beach. She was given a contract by Twentieth Century-Fox in 1965. She was cast in her first television series, The Long, Hot Summer (1965). Even better was her two-season starring character in the groundbreaking prime-time serial opera Peyton Place, “Sandy Webber”. She continued to be very active for the next ten years or so, appearing in TV movies like Black Water Gold, Nightmare in Badham County and Demon Rage, but her popularity started to wane. She briefly starred in the daytime soap opera Capitol in the middle of the 1980s, but she later decided to leave acting behind. Later on, she worked as a producer behind the camera producing projects including the ABC-TV spectacular The Mystery of Natalie Wood. She once ran her own casting agency as well.
