Leonard Ellerbe was born on 6 September 1965 in Washington, D.C., United States. He grew up in a low-income household in Northeast Washington, off Benning Road, Washington D.C. He used to live in a 2-bedroom apartment & slept with his younger brother in a single bed. His mother used to clean homes and his father washed cars. He has a master’s degree in business. He then went on to practice boxing. His dreams were put to rest after certain hand injuries as a teenager. According to him, fighting was a way of life in the D.C. area because if someone was weak, they wouldn’t survive. He is enlisted in Airforce as well. After leaving Airforce, he went to DC to personally train clients where he was introduced to Mayweather family. Then he never looked back.

Ellerbe was traveling to Las Vegas for a tournament where he crossed paths with Roger Mayweather. Roger was training his nephew Floyd. He built up an affluent clientele base during his time as a personal trainer in D.C. but chose to stay with Mayweather family. Inside the gym he conditioned Floyd.
