Mark Burnett Early Life

Born in London, Burnett was raised in Dagenham, Essex. He was enlisted in the British Army and was a Section Commander in the Parachute Regiment. He joined the army when he was 17 years old and served in the 3^rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment. After completing his service, Burnett moved to the United States and started working as a nanny and security detail. Later, he was offered an insurance job which he eventually left.

Burnett joined a French adventure competition in 1991 and saw the opportunity of holding such competitions on other platforms as well. As a result, he bought the copyrights of a competition challenge ‘Eco-Challenge’ and bought the concept to America. It was from this show that Burnett started his career as a producer in television. In 1995, Burnett produced his show which he previously bought the rights to. He released the show under the same name ‘Eco-Challenge’. The show was based on a race expedition.

After producing Eco-Challenge, Burnett set out to produce another show titled ‘Survivor’. The show was released in the summer of 2000 and became an instant hit. Survivor topped the charts and was the summer’s most-watched series after ‘Sonny and Cher’. Survivor became a milestone for Burnett’s career as a TV producer and the show gave him all the recognition and success, he could hope to get in such a short time. The show ‘Survivor’ was named Number 1 reality series of all time in 2009 by Entertainment Weekly. Following Survivor’s success, in 2004 Burnett produced The Apprentice. The show premiered on NBC and featured former US President Donald Trump. In addition to this, Burnett also served as a producer on various other television franchises such as Shark Tank, The Voice, Best Shazam, Coupled, and Are You Smarter than a 5^th Grader?

The shows that Mark Burnett has produced have been published in more than 70 countries and some of the shows that he has produced in the past include Celebrity Apprentice, Bully Beatdown, and Combat Missions, to name a few.
