Leland Tyler Wayne, also known as Metro Boomin, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 16, 1993. His family is originally based in Atlanta, Georgia. He has four siblings. Wayne first became interested in music in middle school when he joined the school band and played bass guitar. Later, at the age of 13, he began producing beats. Wayne studied at Parkway North High School. He moved to Atlanta after finishing high school to enroll at Morehouse College and pursue a business management major. He initially intended to pursue a career as a rapper, but he ultimately chose to go the hip-hop producing route.
Metro Boomin Career
Wayne began connecting with famous hip hop artists on social media while still a high school student. Tay Don was one of the first artists he collaborated with. This paved the way for future collaborations with artists like Gucci Mane, OJ Da Juiceman, and Future. He released his first mixtape, “19 & Boomin,” in 2013 using the stage moniker, Metro Boomin. In 2014, he produced Future’s mixtape, “Monster” and the sixth single from Future’s studio album Honest, “I Won”. He was an executive producer on both projects. He was also the executive producer on Future and Drake’s joint mix tape, “What a Time to Be Alive”. From that point on, he worked with Future frequently. Additionally in 2016, Metro collaborated with 21 Savage to create the EP “Savage Mode” and produced chart-topping songs like “Bad and Boujee” by Migos and “X” by 21 Savage. Along with many other musicians, Metro Boomin has collaborated with Young Thug, Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj, Fetty Wap, and Chief Kief.
