He serves as the CEO of Modell’s Sporting Goods subsidiary of Henry Modell & Company since 2001. He became famous after his appearance in an episode of the reality tv show Undercover Boss on the CBS network. He currently lives in New Jersey, United States with his family.

Mitchell Modell was born on 22 June 1954 in New York, State of New York, United States. His parents were William D. and Shelby G. Modell. He attained his Bachelor of Science cum laude from Boston University School of Management. He had a brother named Michael Steven Modell, who died in 2001. His great-grandfather was Morris A. Model. He is the second cousin of Art Modell, National Football League owner.

As a fourth-generation off-springs inheriting the family business, Mitchell ran the company with his brother, Michael Modell. Mitchell served as co-president until his brother’s death in 2001. After that, he became the CEO and President of Modell Sporting Goods. The company was inaugurated by their great grandfather Morris A. Modell. Initially, he started selling hats and gloves to people getting off ships from Europe in Lower Manhattan. In 1962, ‘modells.com Imports’ started as a single store in San Mateo, California, United States. In 1985, Mitchell helped reshape the subsidiary Modell Import’s image by selling quality, unique home furnishings, and decorative accessories. In July 2012, a newly redesigned e-Commerce-enabled website was launched under the supervision of Mitchell.

  Modell sporting goods operated 152 stores at the peak of its business in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. It expanded across several other U.S. states such as Delaware, Maryland, Connecticut, and more. After a massive decline in sales, Mitchell tried to save his family business leaving no stone unturned but failed. As of March 2020, Modell’s has declared bankruptcy. It remains an online retailer after closing its physical stores completely in August 2020. The brand was acquired by a holding company called Retail Ecommerce Ventures on 14 August 2020. The acquisition deal includes the brand name, trademarks, domain name, and the “Gotta Go To Mo’s” jingle. Mitchell once paid $25000 for the jingle alone. Whereas, Modell became widely known after he was featured on an episode of the CBS network reality series Undercover Boss in 2012 and re-aired in 2013. He has also appeared in the tv series Cavuto on Business and Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street as himself.
