Mutt Lange Early Life

 Robert John Lange was raised in Durban, South Africa, but was born in Mufulira, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) on 11 November 1948. Lange’s South African father worked as a mining engineer in Africa while Lange’s mother came from a local German wealthy family. Mutt formed a music band while attending local school Belfast High School in the province of Mpumalanga, and he beautifully played rhythm guitar.

Mutt Lange Career Beginnings

Together with South African television, film, and stage actor James Borthwick, Lange founded the band Sound Reason in 1969. The group was short-lived, and in 1971 Lange started a new one called Hocus. The trio later produced one album and five single releases. To have more prospects in the music business, he moved to the UK. He started working seriously in his music production profession in 1976, although he didn’t create any successful singles until a few years later.

He began collaborating with the British band City Boy in 1976 and worked with them until 1979, producing five of their albums. He created “Rat Trap” for The Boomtown Rats in 1978, which topped the U.K. charts. He agreed to produce Ipswich Town’s FA Cup-winning single, “Ipswich Get That Goal,” because the team featured Colin Viljoen, a South African-born player. He worked with AC/DC to create the hard rock album “Highway to Hell” in July 1979, which peaked at number eight on the U.K. charts. He produced albums and songs for a variety of singers in the 2000s, including Shania Twain, Muse, Maroon 5, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, and Britney Spears. Along with three of the songs he produced, he has won Grammy Awards for two of the albums he has produced throughout his career.

In June 2010, their divorce was finally formalized. While twain later wed Frederic Thiébaud, the ex-husband of her ex-best friend Marie.
