Rivellino Early Life

Roberto Rivellino was a crucial member of the Brazilian national team in the 1970s, noted for his characteristic moustache, outstanding technique, and passing ability. Domestically, he spent the majority of his career at Corinthians, where he was a long-time fan favorite.

Rivellino became a professional football player at Corinthians after dabbling in futsal as a child. Soon after, his ball control, close control, and left foot talent helped him become one of the league’s most popular players. Corinthians fans dubbed him O Rei do Parque, which translates as “King of the Park.”

Unfortunately for Rivellino, he joined the club amid its worst drought in history. During his nine seasons with Corinthians, the team failed to win a single state league title in So Paulo, a skid that lasted 23 years. Following another close loss in the 1974 state championship finals, the supporters turned on Rivellino, blaming him for the club’s lack of success. As a result, he made the decision to move on.

Rivellino Career

Rivelino was promoted to the senior team in 1965, at the age of 19. He rapidly established himself as one of the team’s best performers and was regarded as one of the country’s most promising players. Rivelino was a traditional playmaker who excelled in ball handling, technique, and long-range shooting. His black moustache and powerful free kicks were his trademarks.

In Rio de Janeiro, the beautiful left-footed player joined Fluminense. With “Flu,” it was evident right away that a good catch had been made. In 1975 and 1976, he won the Rio State Championship with Fluminense. He played for Mario Travaglini, who had previously rejected him at Palmeiras.

The now 32-year-old turned his back on Brazil after the 1978 World Cup. He concluded his career in Saudi Arabia after signing a lucrative contract with Al-Hilal. He resigned from deployment ready in 1981.
