Keith Rupert Murdoch born on 11 March 1931 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He is of English, Irish and Scottish ancestry. His father was an Australian journalist named Sir Keith Arthur Murdoch. His mother was Australian philanthropist named Dame Elisabeth Joy Murdoch, Lady Murdoch. He grew up with three other siblings of the wealthy Murdoch family. He attended Gee Long Grammar school and remained active in school’s publishing affairs. He gained his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Worcester College in Oxford, England. He was actively involved in politics from an early age. Rupert was given the task of running his father’s Adelaide based newspaper after he passed away in 1952. He turned The News into a successful paper in all of Australia. He entered the newspaper market of United Kingdom by acquiring News of the World in 1968. He then went on to own many other newspapers in UK & Canada including The Sun, Times, and Sunday Times. He made his entry in US paper market by acquiring San Antonio Express-News in 1973. He purchased New York Post in 1976.
In 1980, he set the base of his giant media empire by founding News Corporation Limited on 15 March 1980 in Adelaide. In 1984, he bought Metromedia television stations which led to the formation of Fox Broadcasting Company on 9 October 1986. He touched the European market owning a controlling interest in Sky Italia, a satellite television provider in Italy. News Corp was later split up on 28 June 2013 into 21st Century Fox and the current incarnation of News Corporation. He remained the owner of British Sky Group Limited until 2018. Murdoch also sold Fox movie studio, FX, and National Geographic Networks and his share in Star India to Walt Disney for $71.3 billion in March 2019. His other famous publications are HarperCollins and The Wall Street Journal.
